Guidelines

Please read  before sending anything

We are looking for:   Well written, thought-out, and original, lines.   No word or subject is sacred or profane.   We like you to take chances with form and content.   Love, philosophy, imagery, sex, death, and politics.   We are particularly interested in image-laden, abstract poetry.   We are also interested in stuff we haven’t thought about.

What makes us cringe: Personal diatribes against your ex, this kind of poetry ends up saying more about you than your subject.   Poetry on why you write poetry. We love our animals, but no dead pets eulogies. Clichés, unless you have done something unique with it.   What is a cliche? Commonly used phrases or sayings.   Tall as a mountain, time and time again, wicked cool, dumb blond, clueless dude, ad nauseum.

What NOT to forget when you submit your work

  • Check for spelling and typos.
  • Include your name, AKA, or nom de plume
  • We encourage people to send their bios.
  • Send at least three poems and as many as six poems.
  • There is no limit on length.
  • The poem should be pasted into the email.   Do not attach it to your message.
  • Lower case is fine--BUT if a poem is ALL in CAPS it makes it somewhat unreadable.
  • Check for spelling and typos.
  • If you have cut and pasted from any word processing application, you must go into the email message and retype the dashes, apostrophes and quotation marks. Otherwise we get unreadable text.
  • Your e-mail address will be included on your web page in case anyone wants to write you, unless you say, no.
  • If you have your own website, tell us and we will link it up to your page also.
  • Did we mention to check for spelling and typos?
  • Once a page is up, unless we made a mistake, we do not make changes to the poetry.
  • Page design and layout is an editorial decision.
  • You can send us more work after one year of publication.

Fiction

  • Query is good. But you can just send, using the same rules as they apply, in poetry guidelines. Photo in jpg or gif always welcome, but not essential.

Articles, Interviews and Reports

  • Always best to query first. If you have pictures of writer, and subject in jpg or gif, please include.
